We’ve just uploaded the latest background catalog for 2010 and we’ve added a few new features that help you pick backgrounds that’ll get results. Find out which backgrounds were most popular in our Top 9 of 2009 and see our picks for backgrounds that’ll be big in 2010.

You can download it online or you can see the catalog in all its glory by ordering it free in the mail.

Another new feature in this year’s catalog is the recap of 2009 backgrounds. We looked at orders from all of our customers and found the top 6 backgrounds chosen by parents and the top 3 chosen by schools (for admin products like CDs, mugbooks and ID cards).

Pose Catalog

We can’t read your mind, we don’t have a crystal ball, but we do have a pose catalog. It’s an easy way for you to show our account reps exactly how you want your photos cropped. Not only does this save you time by not having to send us a sample image, but you’re also eliminating the chance of misunderstandings.

The Pose Catalog has 6 standard poses of varying sizes that you can choose from. Remember, a full body pose (#6), requires a full body background so that the subject doesn’t “float” in the photo.

If your subject is sitting down, has props or is in an unusual position, you can always e-mail us a sample image that shows how you want it cropped.

iPad Actions for Photoshop

What is it?
Simply put, these Photoshop Actions will allow any UX/UI designer or App developer to quickly create a gorgeous rendering of their app as it would appear on an Apple iPad. All that is required on your end is your final designs (and a copy of Photoshop, obviously).

Installation…

The simplest method of installing Photoshop Actions is to double-click or right-click your mouse and select “open”. The following image demonstrates the latter:

(1) Uncompress the archive to your hard drive.
(2) Select all 6 Actions
(3) Right-click your mouse and chose “Open”

These steps are the same for both the Mac and Windows platforms—the Actions will automatically be installed by Photoshop (CS2,3 and 4 – probably CS5 as well).

How it works…

Once installation is complete, go to your ACTIONS palette. All 6 Actions should now be visible (you may need to scroll to the bottom of your ACTIONS palette).

Creating any of the 6 iPad positions is very easy to do. Each Action has 2 steps:

(Step 1) Creates a new document, which is precisely 1024 x 768—the resolution of the iPad screen.

(Step 2) Will render out your iPad product.

Keep in mind that before you play step 2 you must PASTE YOUR ARTWORK on the topmost layer of the document created by step 1. We have a YouTube video that demonstrates the steps to get you up and running:

These Actions will recreate 6 of the most popular angles of the iPad as seen in Apple’s marketing as well as on many websites, which support or sell apps for the iPad.

The image below was done by rendering 3 of the ACTIONS and compositing them manually in a single document. Users should have a minimum of 36 possible variations, if my math is correct.
