Histogram

The optimal level of exposure of a foreground means that the RGB values are spread out equally across the histogram, with no spikes at either ends. An overexposed foreground poses a larger problem than an underexposed one because more detail is lost. It is important to color correct the image before adding the new background, in order to avoid improperly altering the new background’s colors.

On your camera’s histogram, the optimal level of Green is 128, with both Red and Blue being close to 0. This ensures that that the green is saturated enough to be easily distinguishable from the foreground. If your background is overexposed or underexposed, this will reduce the accuracy of background extraction, especially for subjects with blond hair. We recommend color correction of the image before submitting for background removal. You may need to adjust your lighting setup to in order to obtain the right level of exposure.
